The Secret Behind The LSR Fibre
LSR is made of a plastic based on polyethene (PE). Polyethylene, which belongs to the group of plastics knows as polyethylene, which belongs to the group of plastics known as polyolefins, means "many molecules of ethylene". The raw ingredient used in producing polyethlene is naphta, a product obtained from petroleum.
By subjecting ethylene gas to intense heat, the carbon and water molecules it contains form building blocks that ultimately form a soft thick mass. The fluidity of this product and the pressure under which it is produced are the key factors in the elasticity of the final product. During the production process, this liquid mass is forced through a perforated plate. These almost congealed threads that are then cut into small pieces become the granular polyethylene supplied for processing into all kinds of products.
Commonly Used
More polyethylene is produced throughout the world than any other kind of plastic. We are so used to this modern material that we never stop to think about the many things for which it is used. These include everyday products such as refuse bags, sewer pipes or toys. And without realising it, we often buy things wrapped in a polyethylene film.
But there are also various qualities of PE. Since the LSR fibre manufactured by our own oversea's manufactor has to meet some very demanding criteria, the PE used to manufacture this fibre has been developed especially for this purpose.
Clean
Polyethelene is highly resistent to aggressive substances, is practically unbreakable, and can withstand enormous temperature differences without suffering any damage at all. Whats more, it's one of our most environmentally friendly materials. It's annual production uses less than 1% of the total annual production of crude oil and natural gas.
Its manufacture is relatively clean and efficient, too: the emission of gases harmful to the environment is minimal, and it can be produced with hardly any waste products. Because it is a thermoplastic material, it can also be recycled easily. After remelting, PE can be used to make new products again.
Combinations
Having recognised the excellent properties of PE, the R & D Department of our oversea's manufacturer has combined various high - quality types of polyethylene with such additives as colorants and UV stablisers. PE is thus one of the basic elements that provide the specific properties that make the Thiolon LSR fibre so suitable as a playing surface for various sports, especially football.
The fibres are smooth, elastic and make sliding tackles safe to perform. No wonder, then, that this fibre has been named "Lower Sliding Resistence" (LSR).
